During the past fourty years some of the inhabitants of Podhale region have been assembling homemade tractors. Those machines, assembled with the use of any available materials, are still intriguing in terms of their visuality and – what is equally important – their reliability. This book is the summary of a few years’ project, whose aim was to document the reasons of making numerous tractors in the epoch of real socialism. Skąpski met the first constructors of those specific vehicles. He has noticed, that the pionieers have improved their technology with every single invention, aiming to elaborate the formula for an ideal tractor. Constructing the machines, despite being utilitarian, surely is an attempt to emphasize one’s individuality. Skąpski’s project reveals the unknown fields of creative thinking in postwar Poland.
