“Butterflies” is a visual story about the intriguing and difficult to determine. It’s about moments taken out of context that usually pass unnoticed – and yet captured in photographs. It is also a story about beauty and its degradation and the beauty of degradation.

In the book “Butterflies”, Silvia Pogoda guides the audience through the stages of experiencing and perceiving the life cycle – youth, maturity and old age. She uses undefined, undefined photographs, which he arranges in a sequence of the circle of life and death. The visuals are paired with short texts, conceived by the author as leads for viewers, in which the author shares her thoughts and emotions. At the same time, Silvia Pogoda leaves freedom of interpretation and ways of looking at it. The photos were taken in Japan in 2013–2019. “Butterflies” is the artist’s first and long-awaited book.

“It is difficult to appreciate moments that are ordinary and not remembered as particularly important or groundbreaking, and yet they make up most of our lives. “Butterflies” is a tribute to such moments that pass unnoticed before our eyes. These are not any decisive moments, but inconspicuous fleeting glimpses that are all we have, each of them is a universe. They create a flowing story about beauty and its degradation; about beautiful degradation; a tension which is energy, energy retained in a stationary moment, and about experiencing. Moments – like pearls on a necklace, create a circle of energy, a circle of life and death.

The idea for the book appeared at the beginning of 2018, but only in the spring of 2020, when it suddenly turned out how fragile our reality can be, I thought it was probably the time when I would like it to be created. Thanks to this book, I was able to convey my appeal, or maybe more so my wish, that we live this life knowing that it is the only one.”
