In 2009, the Main Guest of the festival was the Czech Republic – the country where many artists were born and worked, who have become a permanent fixture in the classics of world photography. At that time, the presentation of the Special Guest consisted of three individual exhibitions, two collective exhibitions, one event on the borderline of an exhibition and a happening, and a rich educational program: documentary screenings, meetings with curators and artists, presentation of photo albums and many more.
The main theme of the thematic part of the Krakow Photomonth Main Program was the Archive. The organizers’ ambition was to deconstruct this concept and try to look at the functioning of archives in culture, social life, history and collective memory. The whole was divided into seven parts – one group presentation and six individual exhibitions.
